An Open Letter to America –

Dear America,

What exactly did you think was going to happen?

What did you think would happen to our nation when you embraced a so-called “sexual revolution” in the 60s?

What did you think would happen when you kicked God, the Bible and prayer out of our public schools?

What did you think would happen when you agreed to have abortion on demand so people could use it as birth control?

What did you think would happen when single-parent households became an acceptable norm?

What did you think would happen when you invented “moral relativism” so that one person’s “truth” is as valid as another person’s “truth?”

What did you think would happen when you decided to play God yourself and decide what is sin and what is not sin based on your own personal desires?

What did you think would happen when you abandoned God for “spirituality” whatever that is?

Let’s take a look at the results of your folly.

The sexual revolution has turned women into sex objects to be had instead of fellow human beings to be respected. It also has given men license to take sex from women. Don’t believe me? Please review recent events in Hollywood (our modern-day Sodom) and the rest of the news accounts of serial gropers, assaulters, rapists and pedophiles AND their enabling accomplices! The sex industry is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise ranging from soft-core porn to sex traffic slavery – RIGHT HERE IN THE GOOD OLD USofA. Instead of sex being something between a married man and woman, sex is now just for instant gratification, power, and control. U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A….

Kids bullying other kids has become epidemic. Of course, we had bullying back in our day, but nothing like it is today which is so much more visceral, especially with the use of social media. So, are today’s kids just bigger buttheads than we were when we were younger? No, they just don’t know how to love God and love their neighbor as themselves because we couldn’t possibly teach that in school. By taking God, the Bible and prayer out of school, you’ve eliminated the Judeo-Christian ethic on which our nation was founded. What you’re seeing is a generation of people growing up without God – like what you see? What kind of adults do you think these bullies are going to be? Want a quick glimpse into that? Turn into sports talk radio or social media when your football team loses a game on a blown play. The most recent episode last week resulted in people telling a 21-year-old rookie to kill himself for missing a tackle. Welcome to 21st century America. The human condition without God is depravity so thanks public schools for fighting so hard to keep God out. And you wonder why there are school shootings and these kids grow up to be violent offenders who do not respect other people or value life.

We have become numb to killing unborn babies. A quick Google search says 908,000 abortions were performed in America in 2015. And Uncle Sam shrugged. Everyone knows that vast majority of abortions are for birth control – people thought they were responsible enough to have sex but not responsible enough for the results of having sex. Simply put, they didn’t want their lives disrupted with the consequences of their actions, because, you know, an unwanted child, is just a negative consequence not a living thing! And America applauds their right to do so.

And because we don’t have to be responsible for our actions, men can simply walk away from a woman they’ve impregnated who has decided to keep her child. Every study has shown single-parent households significantly disrupt normal childhood development. In other words, kids need a mom and dad – period. Yet, here in America we celebrate the single parent as if it’s heroic. Certainly, the responsible parent is heroic, but the deadbeat who has walked away from their responsibility emotionally and financially has become the norm. The result, messed up kids who become messed up adults – This from Harvard Health Publishing back in 2011: The rate of antidepressant use in this country among teens and adults (people ages 12 and older) increased by almost 400 percent between 1988–1994 and 2005–2008. It’s worse today.

But it’s all okay, because our nation no longer believes in the absolute truth of God. Instead we all get to choose our own truth because moral relativism ensures that we never have to feel guilty for being wrong! And of course, when we’re not wrong we no longer need Jesus because you only need Jesus to cover your wrong-doing, so if we’re not doing anything wrong, we’re good to go! How dare you judge someone else against Biblical standards! Their truth is as valid as God’s no matter how depraved it may be. What could possibly go wrong with that standard?

Oh, and because my truth is my truth I can decide what is sin and what is not! God is just so old-fashioned! In America today, pretty much anything goes! Take a look at our entertainment. Our mainstream television shows, movies, video games and even our Super Bowl halftime commercials are full of things God would call sin! We’ve become completely numb to it all. Don’t believe me? Read this short list of things God says are bad and then think of the last time you saw any of these things in your entertainment and didn’t even blink:

  • Murder
  • Adultery
  • Bearing False Witness (Lying)
  • Stealing
  • Violence (Against men and women)
  • Hate (For any reason)
  • Greed
  • Sexual Impurity (Hetero and Homo)
  • Drunkenness/Recreational Drug Use
  • Idolatry (Putting anything before God)
  • Unforgiveness
  • Revenge
  • Deceit
  • Evil (Rebellion against God)
  • Wickedness (Transgression against your fellow-man)

America, we’ve decided for ourselves that we no longer need God to tell us what is good and evil – we’ll decide that for ourselves, thank you very much. The result? Not much is evil anymore…except when it happens directly to me, then it’s wrong!

As America’s culture shifts to one of permissiveness, even those in the church are leaving their faith for spirituality. The great part about spirituality is you yourself get to define what that means! Certainly, there is something bigger than you but it just doesn’t get to tell you what to do like that big meanie God guy. You can be spiritual and love people and trees and the air and arrange your furniture just so and have just the right incense going. Nirvana, man! Your goal as a spiritual person? You want to become more in touch with you! It’s all about you, baby! Live and let live! I can do whatever I want so long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else.

This, America, is what you’ve created. A bunch of self-centered, self-absorbed, evil, wicked, people who actually believe they are good as compared to the standard they’ve created for themselves. President Trump on his Twitter account is a perfect reflection of today’s America.

I hear my church friends say we need another Great Awakening. That would be nice. I’m all for the Rapture personally. But I’m afraid neither are going to happen. Scripture tells us that it’s just going to get worse. I’ve quoted these verses before, but here they are again:

6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains. 9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.  (Matthew 26:6-14)

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. (2 Timothy 4:3)

America, I’m afraid you’ve arrived! Europe and Canada were the first to run boldly into the Post-Christian era and now you, beacon of liberty and freedom, are following them over the cliff. Is it too late? I honestly don’t know. But here is what I do know: We that stand firm will see the Kingdom of God. And to stand firm we must continue to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ – the FULL Gospel of love and truth and justice and righteousness and holiness and sanctification and propitiation and salvation.

America, I love you. I really do. But you make me so dang mad sometimes!!! What exactly did you think would happen to our great nation when you embraced the lies from the prince of this world? It’s not too late for you or is it?
